Lumme
- The Wheel of life
A contemporary circus performance about transformation, cycles, and becoming
Lumme – The Wheel of Life is a contemporary circus performance exploring transformation through movement, repetition, and cyclical existence. Emerging from years of interrupted processes and artistic development, the work transforms what was once a project about death into an exploration of life itself.
Originally developed in 2018 under the working title Memento Mori, the project centered around the Wheel of Death apparatus and themes of mortality. When the original work came to an end before reaching the stage, its foundations remained — becoming the starting point for something new.
Inspired by Buddhist lotus symbolism and the concept of samsara, Lumme explores growth as a process of resistance, persistence, and continual becoming. Like the lotus rising from mud toward light, the work asks how transformation emerges through time, repetition, and movement.
At the center of the performance stands a reimagined Wheel of Death apparatus. Through uncommon technical innovations, the wheel rises from the ground and moves across multiple axes, transforming from static structure into landscape, creature, and living presence.
Part growth story and part physical ritual, Lumme moves from darkness toward light, from stillness toward motion, and from death toward life.
After years beneath the surface, the flower finally blooms.
